Here are the directions for completing this project:

  1. Working with a partner, check the December (december_moonrise.pdf) and January ( january_moonrise.pdf) Monthly Moonrise Charts to determine when the moon is visible and make your observation.
  2. Record the phase and take a picture of its appearance. Since some nights may be cloudy, you may need to spend some time looking for the moon in between the clouds. Upload and insert your pictures in the appropriate locations within your data table. Take turns making observations.
  3. Using your sextant, record the altitude of the moon above the horizon.
  4. Using your compass, record the direction of the moon in degrees. Once you have completed all the observations (4 weeks from now), I will give you additional questions to answer.
  5. Let me know if you run into any problems or have any questions.

The project is due on January 22nd. You will have to begin the project no later than December 22nd. I will exclude the lowest test grade for students who complete this project.
